In the middle ages Qena was the base of "kora " along with seven villages . The "kora" system was then abolished , and the administrative section began under which Qena was joined to qous under the othmantic reign , Qena followed the state of gerga in 1826, the state of gerga was divided into provinces thus , Qena became a province of its own . under the local authority system, Qena became a governorate . Qena is know by the importance of its location . this is became it is connected to Al-Qusser via passage which was used by traveling caravance from Egypt to Hagaz through Al- Qusser port, and from which Hagazian arabs come to help their brothers in Qena .
